The CEO of local Embrey Partners Ltd. is continuing to develop in San Antonio, but instead of multifamily properties, this time around it will be university students.
Walter Embrey, Jr., who began working in real estate back in 1967, has donated $1 million to the University of Texas at San Antonio’s real estate finance and development program. To honor the gift, the university is renaming the program as the Embrey Real Estate Finance and Development Program.

Previously recruiting part-time students, the donation will help UTSA attract full-time graduate students looking for real estate training that emphasizes finance as well as skills in design,
Embrey, a native Texan from San Antonio, attended the University of Texas at Austin and received a B.B.A. in finance in 1968. He started his career with a large Austin-based homebuilding company, and went on to develop several commercial projects, single-family homes and more than 6,000 apartment units.
In 1974, Embrey formed Embrey Investments Inc., which later became Embrey Partners Ltd. He was a founding member and chairman of the Real Estate Finance and Development Program, College of Business at UTSA and was a charter member and co-chairman of the Real Estate Finance & Investment Center, McCombs Business School at the University of Texas at Austin.
